A NewUDO is Coming!

With the recent adoption of the City and County’s new Comprehensive Plan, the Planning Department is shifting its focus to implementing the goals and actions in the plan. One specific way we implement the Actions in the Comprehensive Plan is by recommending changes to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

EngageDurham will serve as the home for all things related to the New UDO effort, with links in the sidebar providing more information about how to get involved, upcoming meetings and events, frequently asked questions, and periodic updates on the team’s progress, along with New UDO-related documents and presentations as they are produced.

UDO Text Amendments

A Text Amendment is a proposed change or revision to existing rules or regulations. In Durham, the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) is a tool that regulates how development looks, feels, and sounds like in the City and County. The purpose of the UDO is to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of all Durham City and County residents. The UDO was adopted in 2006, and since then, has needed some periodic updates or improvements, called Text Amendments.

To learn more about text amendments and review upcoming pending amendments, go to the Pending Text Amendments and Public Participation page.
